I created this necklace for Becky a couple of years ago. It took about 6 months to figure out how to make it. I did plan this to be a multi layered necklace with rows of waves but Becky only wanted a single row with a frontal section. Ocean Waves was also the color theme. The bluish beads are 3 cuts-transparent-aqua lined with brown; this is the water. The bugle beads are the wave tops with foam; the beads are white with a satin finish. The beading pattern is my own worked out over a 6 month period in which I made many samples till I got it right. If I ever do offer patterns to sell I hope to be able to design things in a much shorter time. This necklace is an intermediate to advanced pattern. I need to learn how to make graphic directions. There are a few good sites to sell beadwork patterns but I plan to sell them on my own site eventually.

Beadwork is like drawing, playing the piano etc, things I want to do but I am mostly on my computer all day long. 🙁

    Hey Deb, great looking necklacei! You took a long time to make it so you must be very patient! I know that beading new designs like that is an art and so is painting, drawing, music etc. our family is most definetely artsy. you can take it off now if you must. i have seen the fruits of your labor!

    Thank you Becky, I don’t think of myself as a patient person. This was an inspired dream and that drove me to make it. The problem was not so much of design but of construction to make the design work according to the image in my mind. This necklace looks much better in person than this picture that was scanned. The blue beads are 3 cuts so they have some sparkle but it looks kind of dull in the picture. Yes it is good to actually make something and finish it. I have a problem of not seeing things through but I love puzzles and this necklace was like a hard puzzle to figure out.

    I’d say too, it’s not about being a “patient person” but about being able to finish something that you can see the end of. It inspired you to stick to it and see it through. Must be a good thing then.

    If you have that ability, putting it to the test, your muse (zen feeling, “in the zone”) could show up and you could create more easily in the future. FWIW

    Thank you all for your nice comments. I did forget that one reason I stuck to this project was that I was making it for Becky. This is what I find about myself, I am more interested in making something for someone other than myself. But for my beaded jewelry designs my daughter Becky is most appreciative not Kristen. Becky has dabbled in the craft herself.

    My other thought about designing in the future that is that if I start working on my projects I will get better at this. Making up a design is one thing, figuring out how to make it is another.
