Grandpa’s WW1 Picture New Size

Dear Sisters I found that an 18 x 24 frame with a mat opening of 13.5 wide and 19.5 height would work with a larger image I can print on 17 x 22 paper. At least I can buy precut mats for an 18 x 24 inch frame with those dimensions. Whether those sized frames normaly come with a mat with that opening, I don’t know but I will check it out tomorrow in an arts and crafts store. There is an online store that I can buy mats for 3.99 each in lots of 10 plus shipping. I figure I will be making 10 pictures for 10 grandchildren. This mat opening will only affect the height about 1.25 inches. Shown in the pictures below is the full size on the left and evenly cut top and bottom on the right to show what the mat opening would look like.

Let me know if this is acceptable. The full size picture will be sent to you and you will be able to move the picture up and down if you want more foot room or head room.

All in all the larger size picture will be more pleasing than the one I was planning to send. If the picture on the right size is acceptable then I will do it without continuing struggling cutting mats and hurting my fingers.

You can click on each image to show a larger picture in a new window. These pictures have not been fixed.

Today I went to a large arts and craft store that has many frames and mats as well as professional matting and framing offered. I noticed that the 18 x 24 fames didn’t have mats and I asked the person in the framing department if they ever come with mats and she said no. I inquired about the cost of custom matting for an 18 x 24 frame. She said it would be around $19.00 for the cutting and $8.00 for the mat board. Frames this size cost a bit more than 16 x 20 and there are less of these to pick from. I am convinced that this size I should print and it is probably closer to the size picture that we saw at Aunt Barbara‘s house.
Online I can buy precut mats but I don’t know what color to pick other than white or ivory. I’ll also have to buy the photo paper online: Epson glossy photo paper 17 x 22. They do have some premium papers but my older printer is not rated for them.

    Debbie,

I like your ideas. I would prefer an Ivory mat personally.

The size and what a mat would cover are A-OK IMO.

Thank you Maisy. I will go ahead with this plan. 🙂
