Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Frank and I saw “Alice in Wonderland” in IMAX 3D last evening. It was really good. Are any of y’all planning to see it?

I haven’t seen a lot of IMAX movies, but I know I prefer IMAX to regular theatre showings. This is the first true 3D movie I’ve ever seen. It was really nice.

One of these days in the next few weeks I’ll see it again with my three older children. I’ll enjoy that even more, I think. I love re-watching good movies.

I wanted to see it but George heard it wasn’t good. Is this a children’s movie?

Reviews are mixed. More in favor of it than against, depending on what group of reviews you are going by.

Reasoning about which movies to see for me is not “following the reviewers” but looking at info about the movie, trailers, etc. to see if I want to see it. Reviewers online, like on RottenTomatoes, they have a slew of Reviews they bring in, then reduce that to the top ones being “the Cream” and then also have a “users” category. In the case of Alice, last time I looked, the basic reviewers category was in the 50’s, the cream of the crop was in the 60’s, and the users were in the 70’s ….

It is a movie for “children” … “children of all ages” It’s not a kids movie, per se.

Anyhow, it’s a Tim Burton + Disney film, big stars, and newcomers. It’s a beautiful piece. Dark, but not horrid. Liberty has been taken with the story, but when it comes to that it’s the question of whether or not it works. In this case, I think it does, but then, that’s my opinion.

Did you read Alice in Wonderland and/or Through the Looking Glass? Have you seen other Alice productions? Is it an intriguing story to you now or then, or still?

I look at it this way: Movies aren’t just for kids or adults. Good movies will always be for young and old and everything in-between. Some movies are very childish and therefore get a G rating, very suitable for youngsters. PG is a rating for Generally Old Enough Understand & on up. Alice in Wonderland is PG.

Visual people maybe are the ones who love stories like this … which is what you are, right? Artistic, art appreciator …

I liked the movie. I’ll see it again and again. Would I have preferred it to be different? Sure, but it does work as it is.

You as a person may want to see it. George as a person may not want to see it.
I wanted to see it very much. Frank didn’t care about it, and saw it with me and really liked it.

It’s not that we have children still. Movies like this draw every age. In the theatre on Friday I saw teenagers, younger children, babies, middle-agers, elderly, 20-something, 30-something … and on and on. Some had children with them, a lot didn’t, as was the case with me and Frank.

Thus we come to the conclusion: It’s a great movie, don’t be embarrassed to go alone or to go with anyone at all. I can get Frank to see things he’d never have chosen himself, like Alice in Wonderland. He has tried to get out of it, but actually was pulled in and enjoyed it in the end. FWIW

We saw the movie again on Friday late afternoon, with the children this time. It was good the second time around, and the children, minus Quentin (too full of himself to watch it that day) loved it.

Okay Marysue I will drag George to see it. I would never go to a movie alone but when I am watching a very good movie I forget about myself and don’t notice anyone else either.
