Field Genealogy Book Download

A few years ago I downloaded the Field Genealogy book from a genealogy site I can access with my library card number. I had to download it in sections. I combined the pdf files. It was too large, 1390 pages and a 119 MB file. So I deleted most of the pages and left the first 208 pages that contain all the family information we need. The file is a zipped 19 MB file on my verizon site. You can downloaded it here: Choose to save it, don’t choose open. If Adobe Reader won’t  open it, update to the newest reader.

This is scaled down but still a huge amount to read. The Field family like many others in our family history seem to link to William the Conqueror of Normandy who conquered Anglo-Saxon England in 1066 the story of the invasion is shown on The Bayeux Tapestry.

There are two pictures of the Field-VanVechten Bible, it is a Dutch bible from 1603. All the pictures in this book are bad. I would love to find an original book to see if they are better. I don’t know if modern reprints of the book are any better than these pdf files.

    Debbie,
I downloaded it and scrolled through it quickly. it looks awesome and will take time to get through it and the pictures are going to be very interesting to look at. i also looked at the drawing of Mom and downloaded that, awesome job, it really does look like her. I also downloaded the pages on the field/Pool family and read it. it is a bit confusing with all the mention of the people and which ones are which, so we can talk later to sort it all out. i know you dont work outside the home and that does take up a lot of my time, and feels like I am wasting time. oh, well, i am really looking forward to retirement time and it may be in 10 years unless we are ok with having less money for my retirement income.

Very nice stuff, I’ve read a lot of the pages, first 130+ in the adobe file. It’s very interesting and is quite thought provoking since I know the info I have had doesn’t connect the astronomer John Field to our Flushing Field lineage directly.

I am not a geneologist at all, just sometimes have looked for information but don’t have access to where stuff is or spend much effort trying to get stuff, so I really appreciate it when you give us such gems Debbie!

I am not a geneologist either but I pretend I am once in a while. Over the years I’ve done some digging and I will upload stuff when I find it on my computer. This site is the perfect place to have all this information. Thank you again Marysue!

I’m happy to be able to have this site and provide it for us and glad you use it Debbie! I love thinking about ancestors, and love to see what stories are out there to piece things of life together to picture who they were somewhat.

About this post directly: I’ve read more of the Field file and am confusing myself to death nearly. It’s the connecting to the that astronomer guy, which I’m not hanging my hat on, it’s just something that is interesting or not and I’m printing stuff out here and there now and need to find a highlighting pen … 🙂

I also need to get some new software, so what is there that you recommend Debbie, something better than the old Family Tree Maker version 11 I have on the Win XP computer.

I did post an answer to you about family tree maker software under the Reeder T. Slack post.

I haven’t used anything other than family tree maker but I don’ t have a modern version so I don’t know how it has changed. There are some others but I don’t know anything about them.

The basic Family Tree Maker Essenstials 2010 is cheap on eBay. It won’t have any free months of the ancestry.com site, the most they give now it 6 months for the platinum version, but they make you pay eventually if you want to search and see the results. It does make it easier to save sources like the census to people including the census image. I still have a few months free and I may just pay for a year after that unless I can get another much older version with a free year then buy the basic 2010 version. I have win 7 pro 64bit so I probably need a newer one than I own and you should get that one too. The familytree files always seem to work in the new software so I won’t lose any data. As long as I keep my membership I can upload all the census images to the site as well as any family data I find.

I see on Costco they have Family Tree Maker 2010 Deluxe for $42.99 which includes 3-months …

I’ll look in Costco next time we go too. I really don’t need any searching … it’d run out before I thought to use it, like if I started it, it’d run out before I next time thought to use it. It would run out eventually and I just don’t see me as a searching for stuff on those sites kind of person beyond what is freely available online, thus far.

I bet it’s way better out there now, compared to any searching I did when I first got going with FTM. Even so, I know I just don’ t want to put the time into that sort of searching, when I have so many other things I do want to do and costs $ … weighing it all, I have to do what I must for my family’s history, photos photos, photos, tag organize print organize scrapbook organize …

So I’ll see which thing to get in the future, I can wait for now and just pick it up for a good price when I see it IRL or get it on purpose online if I feel like it some time.

    Thanks for the info!
